Four outlaws killed in Lahore

GNN LAHORE: Four notorious outlaws who had escaped after jail break from Sheikhupura last year were killed in a police encounter  here in the Manawaan area during early hours of Friday.

According to SP CIA, Umar Virk, on a tip off CIA police conducted a raid in the area where these outlaws had taken refuge. The criminals resorted to firing at the police party which also retaliated. The shoot out resulted in on the spot death of four proclaimed offenders identified as Irfan, Amjad, Usman and Shakir.

Police said these criminals were wanted by police in Sheikhupura, Lahore and Gujranwala in more than 43 cases of kidnapping for ransom, murders, dacoities etc.

Thick fog in Lahore, affects flights and train schedule

GNN LAHORE: Thick fog disrupted flight operations at Airport and affected train schedule in Lahore and its adjacent areas,
According to Airport sources, flight operations were suspended due to mist. Train schedule was also badly affected due to fog in the city, sources added.

Citizens using vehicular traffic are also facing difficulties at Mal Road, Canal Road and Gulburg early on Monday.(Aaj News)

PM’s china visit to usher new era of prosperity

GNN - FAISALABAD: Senior vice president Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Nadeem Allahwala has said the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to China will help to usher a new era of prosperity and development in the country.

In a statement here Sunday, he said that MoUs and agreement signed with Chine government will help to overcome energy crises in the country on permanent basis.

He said that billion dollars investment by Chinese government in different sectors especially in energy sector will also create job opportunities for unemployed educated youth.

Nadeem Allahwala said that the politics of sit-ins had badly damaged national economy and hoped that PTI will also end sit-in like PAT.

Change of guard ceremony held at Mazar-e-Iqbal

GNN - LAHORE: A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Navy assumed guard duties here Sunday at the Mazar-e-Iqbal on the occasion of 137th birth anniversary of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, poet of the East.
 
Chief guest Navy Station Commander Lahore S.M Shahzad inspected the guard of honor and laid floral wreath at the mazar and also offered Fateha.

Meanwhile, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, DG Rangers Punjab Tahir Javed, a delegation of Pakistan Muslim League-N led by MNA Pervaiz Malik, Advisor on Health to CM, Khwaja Salman Rafique, DCO Lahore Capt (r) Muhammad Usman also visited Mazar-e-Iqbal and laid floral wreath and offered
Fateha.

They also recorded their impressions in the visitor book and paid rich tribute to the peot of East.

Senior civil and military officers, a large number of students and peoples from different walks of life were also present.

ANF seizes 3116 kg charas from Qilla Abdullah

GNN - ISLAMABAD: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized 3116 kg charas from the general area of Killi Habib Zai, Dashti Lorah, Tehsil Gulistan, District Qilla Abdullah.

The worth of the seized charas is Rs. 3116 million approximately in international market.

According to details, the narcotics were concealed in 67 sacks. Each sack contained 46-47 kg charas. The drug was placed at a cache site, outside populated area and concealed in the cuttings of mountainous terrain.

As per initial investigations, the consignment was placed for handing over from one narco gang to another.

After receiving a safe signal, the drugs were to be finally shifted to some safe location at coastal belt of Baluchistan for smuggling abroad.

ANF raiding team tried to keep a discreet trap for apprehending the drug smugglers, however, presence of raiding team was difficult to conceal for a longer duration due to open nature of terrain at unpopulated location.

Case has been registered under CNS Act 1997 and further investigations are under progress.

Pakistan does not accept conditions on dialogue with India: FO

GNN - ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday said it does no accept any condition to resume composite dialogue process with India.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam in her weekly briefing here at Foreign Office said, “We do not accept any conditionality on Pak-India dialogue process”.

While commenting on the statement of Indian Defense Minister Arun Jaitley regarding Pak-India dialogue the Spokesperson said, “Dialogue between Pakistan and India is not a favour from one country to other country.”

She said the dialogue process is necessity for peace and development in South Asia.

The spokesperson said Kashmir is a dispute between Pakistan and India adding that Kashmiris are freedom fighters and their right of freedom had been ensured in UN resolutions so the contention of Indian Minister about Kashmiris is not acceptable.

The spokesperson said All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders are not separatists, but freedom fighters who are carrying out their movement from an occupied territory.

Answering a question, she said Pakistan does not want to stop trade between India and Afghanistan through its territory.

She explained that Afghanistan is a landlocked country and Pakistan had given it access to the international waters. She said India can use Karachi Port for the trade purposes with Afghanistan.

She said it is for the Afghan people and the government to take decision from where they want to get aid. She said Pakistan wants that Afghan soil should not be used to destablise Pakistan. She said Pakistan has adopted the policy of non-interference in Afghanistan.

The spokesperson said Pakistan had evacuated 3400 stranded Pakistanis from Libya through 13 special chartered flights and provided transport facility to those who could not travel own their own.

On the issue of death penalties being given to leaders of Jamat-e-Islami in Bangladesh, the spokesperson said it is an internal issue of Bangladesh. She said Pakistan did not want to interfere in the internal issues of any country.

Replying to a question about the report of US Defence Department report, the spokesperson said US ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson was conveyed Pakistan’s sentiments on this report.

She said Pakistan took serious exception to comments contained in the US Department of Defence report sent to the Congress under the title “Progress Towards Security and Stability in Afghanistan”.

The spokesperson said while noting Pakistan’s cooperation with the US in areas of mutual interests, the recently released report also carries unsubstantiated allegations of the existence of terrorist ‘sanctuaries’ or that proxy forces are operating from here against Afghanistan and India.

She said Pakistan’s protest over these unwarranted comments was conveyed by the Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz to the US Ambassador Richard Olson at the Foreign Ministry yesterday.

The spokesperson said such allegations are of particular concern at this point when Pakistan government has launched comprehensive operations against militants in North Waziristan. The military operation “Zarb-e-Azb” has been broadly welcomed internationally, including in the US, she added.

She said the operation has successfully eliminated terrorist hideouts and is directed against all militants, without any distinction.

“We therefore hope that the issues will be seen in their correct perspective,” she added.

On the recent situation in Palestine, the spokesperson said Pakistan strongly condemned the closure of Aqsa Mosque and urged the international community to play its due role for the opening of the Mosque and ensure that Palestinians should be given their due rights.

Processions of 9th Moharram end peacefully

GNN - MULTAN: As many as 82 mourning processions including South Punjab’s one of the biggest procession of Mumtazabad reached their destination peacefully on 9th of Moharram.

Thousands of faithful did noha-khawani, mourning and self-flagellation amid tight security arrangements. Rescue 1122 officials and Health department also set up centers at scattered places to deal with emergency like situation.

A total of 2947 police officials performed duties to guard 186 Majalis and 82 mourning processions here on Monday.

According to police, among these processions, 42 were licensed and 40 traditional, out of these nine were declared in “A category” while 73 in “B category”. The sources informed that 1103 police officials including four inspectors, 43 Sub inspectors and 36 assistant sub inspector performed duty with the mourning processions along with their other colleagues and senior officers.

The police further said that 1844 police officials including 50 sub-inspectors and 82 assistant sub-inspectors were deputed for 186 Majalis in the district. Police have kept 44 Majalis in “A category” while 142 in “B category”. Besides this, reserve police also remain alert to react in case of need.

Wagha Border resounds with Pakistan Zindabad

GNN - LAHORE: Giving a loud message to terrorists and anti-Pakistan elements that they could not haunt the valiant Pakistani nation through covert acts, Pakistan Rangers allowed the general public to witness the flag-lowering ceremony the very next day, on Monday, after a suicide attack near the parade venue on the Wagha border on Sunday.

A large number of enthusiastic  people rushed to the border to witness the flag-lowering ceremony, while Lahore Corps Commander Lt Gen Naveed Zaman and Pakistan Rangers (Chenab) Director General Tahir Javed Khan ensured their special participation in the ceremony.

During the ceremony, the parade ground resounded with Pakistan Zindabad (Long Live Pakistan) slogans by the participants giving a clear message to the anti-state elements of their courage and patriotism.

Later, talking to media, Lahore Corps Commander Lt Gen Naveed Zaman expressed profound sorrow and grief over loss of innocent lives in the suicide attack near Wagha Border, and prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed souls in eternal peace. He also expressed sympathies with the affected families.

The Corps Commander said, Pakistani nation had proved that they could never be terrorized through such covert and mischievous activities by the extremists and terrorists.

Such terror acts, he added, could not diminish courage and national zeal of the people of Pakistan.

8 outlaws arrested; 202 wine bottles seized

GNN - ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police have arrested  eight outlaws from various areas of the city and recovered 202 wine bottles, 560 gram hashish and looted items from their possession, a police spokesman said on Monday.

According to details, Shehzad Town police arrested a bootlegger namely Liaqat Masih and recovered 200 bottles of wine from him. Banigala Police arrested accused Ramzan and recovered looted items from him.

Kohsar police arrested Imran, Younas and Aamir and recovered a total of 560 gram hashish and 8 cans of beer from their possession.

Golra police arrested Imran, Irfan and Maria and recovered two bottles from their possession. Cases have been registered against these nabbed persons and further investigation is underway from them.

Ghusal of Data Darbar performed

GNN - LAHORE: The 971th annual ghusal ceremony of the shrine of Hazrat Ali Bin Usman Alhajveri, popularly known as Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), was held here on Monday.

Religious Affairs Committee Data Darbar and Federal Minister Finance Ishaq Dar was chief guest of the ceremony.

The ceremony was started with recitation of the Holy Quran and different Naat Khwans also presented Naat.

Later, ghusal of the shrine was performed with rose water and wreaths were laid on the shrine.

Special prayers were offered for peace, stability and prosperity of the country.

Provincial Food Minister, Bilal Yaseen, Provincial Auquaf and Religious Affairs Minister, Atta Manika and others were also present.

Wagha blast’s FIR registered

GNN - LAHORE: Batapur Police Station has registered an FIR (First Information Report) against an unknown person, who blasted himself near Wagha Border in the evening of November 2 (Sunday), an official of the PS confirmed here on Monday.

According to the FIR, he said, a Rangers Inspector Muhammad Tahir informed the Batapur police that he along with his other colleagues was performing duty at Wagha when, all of a sudden, an unknown person blew himself with heavy explosives among hundreds of people who were leaving the Wagha Border after witnessing the flag-lowering ceremony in the outer parking area, 500 to 600 meters away from the Pakistan-India boarder, at around 5:40pm on November 2, 2014 (Sunday). The explosion claimed 55 lives and injured 110 other visitors, he added.

The Batapur Police Station’s official said that they were investigating the case further and hoped that they would soon arrest the mastermind of the suicide attack.

PM expresses grief over Wagah incident; seeks report

GNN - ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Sunday expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic incident at Wagah near Lahore.

He extended condolences on the loss of lives and sought report over the incident.

The Prime Minister also directed the Interior Ministry and law enforcement agencies to provide all necessary support to the Punjab Government in investigating the Wagah incident and to bring those responsible for this human tragedy to justice.

He asked the provincial government to ensure proper care and treatment to the injured.

55 killed in suicide attack near Wagha

#GNN - #LAHORE: As many as 55 people, including women and children, were killed and several others injured in a suicide attack outside the Wagha Border parade area here on Sunday.

Director General, Punjab Rangers, Tahir Khan told the media that the suicide bomber exploded himself about 600 yards from the parade area.

He said the bomber could not enter the parade area due to the security cordon and he waited till the flag lowering ceremony ended. He exploded himself when people were leaving the venue in great number.

To a question, the DG Rangers said the area where attack took place was market area.

Special directives had been issued to the law-enforcing agencies to take extra security measures during Muharram, he added.

He said the political administration had been asked to keep close vigil on movement of the suspects.

He said Parachinar-Chappry Road would be closed for traffic on Muharram 9 and 10.

He said that he was in close contact with the Tesco, the Wapda and the PTCL authorities to ensure their services during Muharram.

Col. Maqbool said that the administration also banned entry of vehicles into the area during Muharram and announced weeklong holidays.

The mourning processions are being held in about 350 Imam Bargahs while security personnel in upper and lower Kurram Agency had also been deployed along with Jawans of Levies, Kurram Militia and Pakistan Army, he added.

He said the security forces deputed on all exit and entry points would halt the entry of saboteurs.

8 PR Police employees dismissed for killing passenger

#GNN - #LAHORE: Eight employees of Pakistan Railways Police have been dismissed for killing a passenger Salim who was travelling in Mehr Express train.

According to a press release on Thursday, the SP PRP Rawalpindi dismissed the accused police employees after they were found guilty in the departmental inquiry.

Those cops were dismissed include: sub-inspector Abdul Latif, head-constable Liaqat Ali, constables Waseem Abbas, M Rafique, Abdur-Rasheed, Ameer Hamza, Nasir Masih and Ameer Umar.

These PR police employees have already been arrested.

4 judicial officers placed at IHC disposal

#GNN - #LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday placed services of four judicial officers including two district & sessions judge (D&SJs) and two additional district & sessions judge (AD&SJs) at the disposal of Islamabad High Court for their further posting.

According to a LHC notification, the services of Nazir Ahmad Gujana, D&SJ Sheikhupura, Sohail Ikram, D&SJ Mianwali, Muhammad Ata Rabbani, AD&SJ Bahawalnagar and Amir Saleem Rana, AD&SJ Rawalpindi were placed at disposal of Islamabad High Court for their further posting in Islamabad Judicial Service.

Meanwhile, the services of Muhammad Shiraz Kayani, AD&SJ Sarai Alamgir and Abdul Razzaq , AD&SJ Rawalpindi were placed at the disposal of the Supreme Court for three months.

The services of Ms Bushara Zaman, AD&SJ, on promotion as D&SJ, were placed at disposal of Punjab government for her posting as Judge, Anti-Terrorism Court-II, Gujranawala.

Khursheed Shah criticizes Indian aggression on LoC

#GNN - #ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Thursday criticized Indian aggression on the Line of Control (LoC) which resulted in about twelve casualties as well as injuries of many Pakistanis over a period of few days.

In a statement here, he said that the cross border shelling and firing by Indian forces was escalating tension between the two neighboring countries and if the situation remained the same it might lead to worsening of ties between them.

Khursheed Shah informed that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly regarding the continuous breach of the border by Indian security forces.

Ex-PM’s son and his guard kills Lahore youth

#GNN - #LAHORE: A case has been lodged against Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, and his guards for allegedly killing a youth on Wednesday, sources said.

A guard escorting Gilnai opened fire on Tahir in the midst of a scuffle in Defence area of the provincial capital, police said.

The family of the slain staged a protest placing the dead body on the road. The heirs accused Gilani’s guards of killing the boy.

In this regard, Punjab Chief Minster Shahbaz Sharif sought a police report and ordered action against elements responsible.(GNN, AAJ, AIP)

3000 Policemen deployed, to protect installations in Lahore


#GNN - #LAHORE: #Following the situation in #Islamabad, #security in Lahore has been put on high alert where 3000 policemen have been deployed to protect 8 installations including the Prime Minister and Chief Minister’s residence.

Speaking to Geo News, DIG Operations, Lahore, Dr. Haider Ashraf said that the police has been deployed to protectr important installations so that protesters cannot damage the installations. The DIG added, that policemen have been instructed not to use weapons against the protesters.

The DIG added, that if protesters take the law in their hands, then section 144 will be imposed in Lahore.

Police cordons off Minhajul Quran secretariat as Qadri decries 'crackdown' on #PAT

#GNN - #LAHORE: Hours after an #FIR was registered against Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri, Punjab police set up pickets on all roads leading to the Minhajul Quran secretariat in Lahore and detained dozens of activists early on Thursday morning.
According to Express News, heavy contingents of police have been deployed in Model Town and all roads leading to Minhajul Quran secretariat have been sealed.

There were reports that police were raiding houses of PAT activists and were stopping those activists who were trying to reach the Minhajul Quran secretariat ahead of Youm-e-Shuhada.

PAT Principal secretary GM Malik claimed that around 3,000 activists had gathered at the Minhajul Quran secretariat ahead of Youm-e-Shuhada.

The PAT chief decried the arrests and asked government to refrain from resorting to such acts. Qadri further urged the Punjab police not detain PAT activists.

Express News reported that as many as 22 PAT workers were arrested in Faisalabad.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Rehman Malik has called the whole act of police cordon and detention of PAT activists part of a surreptitious ‘deal’ between the government and PAT.
