He drew some criticism on social media, with skeptics noting that Virginia is a darkhorse but the school is located in a state Bush likely needs to reach the Oval Office like his brother and father.

Ward-Prowse extends Saints stay
Born in Portsmouth, the home of Southampton’s bitter south coast rivals, the 20-year-old has been on Saints’ books since the age of eight and has made 77 first-team appearances in all competitions for the club since his senior debut in October 2011.
Now the England-Under 21 international is set to stay at Southampton, currently an impressive third in English football’s top flight, until 2020 at least.
“The club is in a fantastic position and ever since I joined the club at a young age I knew it was the right place to be,” Ward-Prowse told Southampton’s YouTube channel.
“I fell in love with the place straight away,” he added.
“I’ve been on a fantastic journey, the club has too, and it’s great to extend my stay.
I’m really excited for the next few years.”
Ward-Prowse has made 17 appearances for Southampton so far this season, despite being sidelined for a large part of the campaign with a broken foot.
However, he has featured in all 11 matches since returning last month and Saints manager Ronald Koeman was delighted by Ward-Prowse’s decision to extend his contract.
“He’s one of the young players who is developing himself in a very good way.
He will be a great player,” Koeman said.
“It’s always good news, I’m happy that he would like to stay with us.
It’s a good signal to the rest of the players,” the former Netherlands defender added.
“He’s one of the examples for the academy, to the confidence of the young players.
“‘Prowsey’ developed in the academy and now he’s one of the young players who plays for the first team.
“He’s a good professional, always serious in his training, in his discipline, he’s a big example for all young players.”

CBS says suspends CBS Sports analyst Greg Anthony after his arrest
"Greg Anthony will not be working again for CBS this season," the spokesperson said in an email.
Anthony, 47, was arrested Friday evening after making an agreement for sexual favors, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
His agent did not immediately respond to a request for comment on his arrest.
Anthony played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association before joining CBS in 2008 as lead studio analyst for the network's college basketball coverage, according to his network biography.
He had been scheduled to work CBS' broadcast of the Michigan State-Maryland basketball game in College Park, Maryland, on Saturday.

Tennis: Nishikori, Verdasco score wind-blown Kooyong wins
Nishikori, ranked fifth in the world, was forced to work hard in swirling conditions at Kooyong Club for just over two hours.
“It was tough for both of us — like a little typhoon out there,” said the Tokyo-born player now based in Florida. “But it was a good match for me: three sets and some good tennis.”
The eight-man warm-up event for the Australian Open starting on Monday is considered prime preparation for the first major of the season.
“Conditions made it tough to play,” added the 25-year-old Nishikori.
“It was difficult for me to be aggressive. But I played a good tie-break and I’m happy to win today.”
Verdasco also took charge of his game as he was tested by the weather.
The 33rd-ranked Spaniard collected the first set against Simon in 27 minutes and thwarted the Frenchman as Simon served to level at a set each.
Instead, he was broken to love, with Verdasco eventually winning a tie-breaker on a concluding Simon backhand error.
“This wind is tough for everyone,” said the Spaniard. “You need to be focused and hit every ball with confidence — if not it flies everywhere.
“Despite the conditions, this is perfect preparation for the Open. I like the hot conditions but you never know here.”
Nishikori came to Kooyong after a semi-final last weekend in Brisbane, where he lost to Canadian Milos Raonic in three tie-break sets.
After winning the opening set thanks to a break in the first game, Nishikori’s level slipped as Australian world number 273 Thompson made his move in the second set, winning it via a break of serve in the fourth game.
The third set was halted for a short time due to a passing shower.
When the players returned Nishikori failed to serve out for victory at 5-3, the set eventually going to a tie-break after Thompson saved a match point in the 12th game.
Nishikori took his first match point in the tie-break as the Australian double-faulted.
Later matches see Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov against Serbian youngster Filip Krajinovic and another Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez versus Richard Gasquet of France.

Ashley Young could be out for several weeks after the United player suffered a hamstring injury during the Reds’ draw at Stoke on New Year’s Day, fears Louis van Gaal.
Young, playing at right wing-back, was forced off with around 15 minutes left at the Britannia Stadium after pulling up whilst running down the wing.

Peterson, 29, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor assault charge. He must pay a fine of $4,000 and perform community service, under the deal reached in a court outside of Houston.
He had been accused of felony injury to a child. Montgomery County Judge Kelly Case deferred any finding for two years.
"I'm just glad this is over," Peterson said on the steps of the courthouse. "I can put this behind me. And me and my family can begin to move forward."
Peterson is among a handful of National Football League players recently charged, convicted or implicated with domestic abuse in a scandal that has rocked the nation's most popular sport.
Peterson had been charged with striking his son with a thin tree branch as a form of punishment, leaving the child bruised.
Any punishment by the NFL is separate from any possible deal with local prosecutors.
"We will review the matter, including the court record, and then make a determination on his status," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told Reuters in an e-mail.
"We cannot provide a timetable."
Peterson's combination of speed and power has made him one of the league's top running backs.
He rushed for 2,097 yards in his MVP year of 2012, an eye-popping 6.0 yards per carry, and finished just eight yards shy of Eric Dickerson's all-time single-season record set in 1984.
Peterson said as a child growing up in Texas, where corporal punishment is legal, that he was disciplined in the same manner that he used to punish his son.
The Vikings absorbed heavy criticism for holding Peterson from only one game until one of its sponsors, hotel chain Radisson, suspended its contract with the team.
With the NFL under fire for its uneven handling of domestic abuse cases, the Vikings ultimately placed Peterson on the NFL's exempt list, which suspends him from all team activities but continues to pay him his full $11.75 million salary.

Cricket: Pakistan close on series win after Misbah’s blitz
Misbah smashed a 56-ball hundred, equaling West Indian legend Viv Richards’s record made against England at Antigua in 1986, minutes after breaking the mark for the fastest fifty which he made off just 21 balls at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
Misbah’s stunning blitz set up Pakistan to declare their second innings at 293-3, setting a daunting 603-run target for Australia who suffered another batting collapse before reaching 143-4 at stumps on the fourth day.
Steven Smith (38) and Mitchell Marsh (26) were at the crease as Australia still need another 460 runs for an unlikely win or bat out three sessions on the final day to avoid a 2-0 whitewash, their first series defeat against the Pakistanis since a 1-0 loss in Pakistan in 1994.
Australia’s woes with the bat continued as left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar (3-65) struck regular blows by dismissing Chris Rogers (two), Glenn Maxwell (four) and Michael Clarke (five) in 19 balls to leave Australia tottering at 43-3.
Clarke was beaten by a beautiful turner as the Australian captain pushed on the back foot only to see his stumps disturbed.
That summed up Clarke’s miserable series with only 57 runs.
David Warner had held on end intact, reaching his 13th half-century before miscuing a drive off Mohammad Hafeez and was caught for 58.
Earlier Misbah, notorious for his slow batting in one-day internationals, removed all doubts about his credentials.
In all he hit 11 boundaries and five sixes off 57 balls during his two centuries in the match, a blitz which overshadowed Azhar Ali’s feat of 100 not out, making this only the second occasion in Test cricket’s history when two batsmen scored a century in each innings in the same match.
Australian brothers Ian and Greg Chappell scored centuries in each innings against New Zealand at Wellington in 1973.
Misbah beat the previous record of the fastest half-century held by South Africa’s Jacques Kallis scored against Zimbabwe at Cape Town in 2004.
Misbah hit two boundaries off paceman Mitchell Starc to reach his hundred, punched the air in delight and waved his bat to team-mates.
This is also the second fastest hundred in terms of time, behind Australia’s Jack Gregory who reached a hundred in 70 minutes against South Africa at Johannesburg in 1921.
Misbah took 74 minutes to reach the mark.
Misbah cut loose after Younis Khan fell for 46, hitting three sixes and a four off one Steven Smith over and then hit the spinner for his fourth six an over later.
In all he hit four boundaries and as many sixes in his fifty. Misbah pushed Starc for three to complete the fastest Test fifty ever which took only 24 minutes.
The previous fastest fifty in terms of time was held by Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ashraful who took 27 minutes for his fifty against India at Dhaka in 2007.
The previous fastest Test half-century by a Pakistani batsman was by Shahid Afridi who took 26 balls to reach the mark, against India at Bangalore in 2005.
Majid Khan previously held the record for the fastest hundred by a Pakistani, scored off 74 balls against New Zealand in Karachi in 1976.
Pakistan had resumed at 61-2 on the fourth morning, losing only Younis Khan to Smith before lunch.
Younis, who scored century in each innings of Pakistan’s 221-run win in the first Test in Dubai, finished with a Pakistani record of 468 runs in two matches.

Murray crashes to Ferrer in Shanghai
The 11th seed took the first set with ease before crumbling, as Ferrer took it 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 to leapfrog Murray into ninth place in the race to reach the eight-man year-ender.
It was a crushing setback for Murray, who has won seven of their previous 12 meetings and must now scramble if he is to make next month’s season finale in London.
A day after Rafael Nadal was one of five top-10 players to fall, Murray started the third-round match brightly, going 5-1 ahead within 25 minutes before closing the first set 6-2 with his fifth ace.
But fifth seed Ferrer took the initiative in the second set with increasingly powerful groundstrokes, snuffing out the threat from Murray’s aggressive serving game.
The 27-year-old Scot earned just one break point in the second set, as he made a series of mistakes dealing with Ferrer’s topspin.
And the Spaniard continued to torment early in the decider, breaking serve at his second attempt after Murray drove a routine groundstroke into the net.
He then broke again to charge ahead at 5-2 before sealing it in one hour and 55 minutes.
Novak Djokovic, Nadal and Roger Federer have already qualified for the World Tour Finals, leaving five spots up for grabs.
But most of the players gunning for the remaining positions have already lost in Shanghai, with only Tomas Berdych, in seventh place, remaining.
And the Czech sixth seed strengthened his bid when he won his third round match against Croatian Ivo Karlovic 6-3, 6-4 in just one hour four minutes.
Meanwhile, Gilles Simon of France continued his fine form at the tournament, dumping out Malek Jaziri of Tunisia 6-2, 6-3 after ousting Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka in the second round.
Elsewhere, Julien Benneteau of France beat American Jack Sock 6-3, 6-4.

Pietersen blames Flower for ‘choking’ England
Forty-eight hours of Flower-bashing did not seem enough to satisfy Pietersen as even when he was asked about his so-called ‘back-stabbing’ team mates or the England and Wales Cricket Board’s desire to produce “choir boy” players, the 34-year-old turned the focus back to his nemesis-in-chief.
Asked if things turned sour with his team mates due to a clash of personalities or jealousy, Pietersen told Reuters in an interview on Wednesday: “We’ll leave the team mates out of this for now and we’ll just talk about the coach (Flower).
“The coaching issue was a big issue. The coach didn’t like me.
Coach wanted me out. At any opportunity that he got he would collect his notes and he’d eventually get me one day.
It’s incredibly unfortunate that it ended the way it ended.”
Pietersen accused wicketkeeper Matt Prior and bowlers Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann and James Anderson of forming a clique which made life miserable for other members of the team due to their bullying tactics.
But South-African born Pietersen was adamant that it was Flower who “let that clique grow like a bad weed and choke our team”.
“The team mates played a part in it because they were allowed to play a part in it. But a decent man manager, a decent coach would have sorted the situation out and none of this would ever have happened,” added Pietersen on the eve of the publication of his explosive biography – KP.
“If a great coach was in charge of England, none of this would have happened.”
Flower led England to the top of the world test rankings for a year from August 2011, master-minded three Ashes series victories and was coach when they won the World Twenty20 Cup in 2010.
Since making his England debut in a one-dayer in 2004, Pietersen’s on-pitch fireworks enabled him to amass 13,797 runs over 277 international matches to become England’s highest ever run scorer.
However, it is his inability to stop those sparks flying when he comes off the field that has made him persona non grata in the England set-up — with the axe falling on his career following the 5-0 humiliation in the last Ashes series.
“They want the characters, they want the personalities on the field, they want the headlines, they want the guys to perform and they will very happily accept all the big endorsements and the companies that will sponsor them,” Pietersen said.
“But goodness, anybody who dares say anything, other than strict regime line, you get in trouble. Unfortunately, you can’t have the two.
“You can’t have the maverick or the great player who does extraordinary things on the field and then have a choir boy off it. It just doesn’t work.”

World Cup will decide who’s number one: Clarke
#GNN #Sports - #HARARE: Next year´s #Cricket World Cup will decide the kings of the 50-over game whatever happens in the race to top the ICC world rankings between now and then, according to Australia captain Michael Clarke.
Australia top the rankings going into Sunday´s triangular series match against Zimbabwe in Harare but, depending on results, could be overhauled this week by India or South Africa, who they face on Tuesday.
Clarke believes that the definitive ruling on the best one-day side will not come until Australia and New Zealand host the World Cup from Feb. 14-March 29 next year.
"Whoever wins that tournament will be seen as the number one one-day team in the world," Clarke told the Cricket Australia website in Zimbabwe.
"That´s the way I´ve always looked at one-day rankings. I guess you love being number one in any form of the game but ... you get a great indicator who is the number one team in the world in six months time playing in a World Cup. "That´s what dictates it."
Australia, who won the World Cup in 1987, 1999, 2003 and 2007, recently lost their brief grip on the number one test ranking to the Proteas.

#GNN - LAHORE: Former diplomat Shaharyar Khan was Monday elected Pakistan´s cricket chief for a three-year term, a move aimed at ending a 14-month leadership tussle which has left the governing body in disarray.
Khan, 80, becomes the 30th chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but the only one to have a second tenure, having held the post between December 2003 to October 2006.
Khan was elected unopposed under the Board´s new constitution adopted last month in a bid to resolve the dispute triggered in May last year when then-chairman Zaka Ashraf was suspended by Islamabad High Court.
After Ashraf´s suspension, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif appointed veteran journalist Najam Sethi as PCB head. But court orders and government decrees saw Sethi swapping power with Ashraf five times.
The Supreme Court last month ordered elections under the new constitution and named a retired judge as interim PCB chief and election commissioner.
The PCB said in a statement Khan was unanimously elected unopposed by the 10-member board of governors.
Khan, who also served as the country´s foreign secretary between 1990-94, was appointed PCB head by military ruler General Pervez Musharraf but was removed after the fiasco in the Oval Test against England in 2006. Pakistan forfeited that Test after then-skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq refused to lead the team onto the field in protest at being penalised by the umpires for ball-tampering.

Ronaldo still the boss as Madrid win Super Cup

World Cup stars Kroos and Rodriguez were making their Madrid debuts, while Bale was returning to his hometown, but it was Ronaldo, characteristically, who hogged the spotlight with a brace in the Welsh capital.
The Portugal captain claimed a 30th-minute opener from Bale´s cross and then slammed home a second goal shortly after half-time to earn the European champions what could be the first of six trophies this season. "We knew this would be a complex game, but we played well and created goal-scoring opportunities," said Ronaldo, who was named man of the match by his former Manchester United mentor Alex Ferguson.
On Kroos and Rodriguez, he added: "These are two crucial players for us. They played well and they helped the team win this important trophy. "While 80-million-euro ($108 million) new recruit Rodriguez had a modest debut, Madrid´s new-look attack -- which cost roughly 310 million euros to assemble -- showed ominous flashes of quality.
Victory gave Madrid only their second Super Cup, after a maiden triumph in 2002, and enabled Carlo Ancelotti´s side to avenge a costly 2-1 loss at the hands of Europa League winners Sevilla in La Liga last season.
While Ancelotti named both Kroos and Rodriguez in his starting XI, Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno was omitted from his side´s match-day squad amid reports he is on the verge of joining Liverpool.

U.S. judge rules against #NCAA, says athletes can be paid
#GNN - The National Collegiate Athletic Association must allow universities to offer student athletes a limited share of revenue, a U.S. judge ruled on Friday, a decision that cuts to the heart of the NCAA's mission to enforce amateurism in college sports.
More than 20 current and former athletes filed an antitrust class action against the NCAA, saying players should share in profits of college athletics, a lucrative business in which universities reap billions of dollars from football and basketball.
U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken in Oakland, California, on Friday issued an injunction to allow students to recover some revenue generated from use of their names, images and likenesses. Wilken did not put the injunction on hold pending appeal, but said it will not take effect until the start of the next recruiting cycle.
"I think we'll look back at this five years from now as the day that college sports began to change. That's how important it is," said Roger Abrams, a sports law professor at Northeastern University.
NCAA Chief Legal Officer Donald Remy said "we disagree" with the court's ruling allowing athletes to share in revenue.
"We note that the Court's decision sets limits on compensation," Remy said, adding that "the NCAA is committed to fully supporting student-athletes."
The ruling adds to the mounting legal, political and public pressure for colleges to share the revenue athletic programs generate and give student athletes better benefits. In April, football players at Northwestern University became the first U.S. student athletes to vote on whether to unionize.
The majority of college athletes do not go on to play professionally. Critics say the NCAA's current scholarship policy short-changes athletes who risk injury and devote many hours to practice sessions, travel and competition.
On Thursday, the NCAA gave the five biggest college conferences broader authority to set their own rules on areas such as scholarships, insurance and travel for athletes' families.
The NCAA grosses roughly $770 million per year in media rights for its annual Division I men's basketball tournament, known as March Madness. Revenues are shared with member schools.
The richest conferences generate billions of dollars each year exclusively for themselves through media contracts and their own cable TV networks, primarily on the popularity of football and men's basketball.
Wilken's ruling follows a three-week bench trial earlier this summer. The lead plaintiff, Edward O'Bannon, won a national basketball championship with UCLA in 1995. He testified during trial that he usually spent about 40-45 hours per week on basketball and "maybe about 12 hours" on academics.
"I was an athlete masquerading as a student," O'Bannon said in court.
In her order on Friday, Wilken wrote that inequities in college sports could likely "be better addressed as a policy matter by reforms other than those available as a remedy for the antitrust violation found here."
However, Wilken still opted to issue an injunction. She ordered the NCAA to allow schools to hold a limited share of licensing revenue in trust for recruits, payable when they leave school or when their eligibility expires.
The NCAA is still allowed to enforce rules that ban student-athletes from endorsing commercial products, Wilken ruled.
Matthew Mitten, director of the National Sports Law Institute at Marquette University Law School, said the ruling moves college sports closer to the professional model.
"The amateur model that college sports has been is certainly on life support," he said.

India, resuming on their overnight 112 for four, were bowled out in under 25 overs on Thursday for 178 before lunch on the final day in pursuit of what would have been a new fourth innings record winning total of 445.
Victory saw England end a run of 10 Tests without a win, a sequence stretching back nearly a year.
