PM directs Nisar to hold talks with political leaders’ post Hakimullah’s killing

LAHORE: Information Minister Pervez Rashid said on Monday that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had directed Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to hold talks with political leaders following the killing of Hakimullah Mehsud in a US drone strike.

According to Rashid, the interior minister will brief the prime minister about these talks in the next two days. Chaudhry Nisar will also decide if an All Parties Conference (APC) needs to be called.

The information minister said that provincial assemblies will decide on resolutions against drone attacks and if there is a resolution submitted in the National Assembly, the government will consult with allies and opposition parties.

Rashid added that it was in the larger interest of Pakistan to move towards dialogue with the Taliban.

In a news conference, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan termed the killing of Hakimullah Mehsud the ‘murder’ of peace in the region.
