ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court five-member bench hearing the intra court appeal on Friday stopped the contempt of court proceeding against the defence secretary, Asif Yasin Malik until November 18. SC five member bench headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk and consisting of Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Athar Saeed, Justice Azmat Sheikh Saeed and Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman was hearing the intra-court appeal.
Senior advocate, Iftikhar Gilani, the counsel of Asif Yasin Malik had filed the intra court appeal against his client’s indictment by SC three-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan on Tuesday for not complying with its orders for holding local government elections in the cantonment areas.
During the course of hearing, the Attorney General made a plea that he be allowed to dissociate himself from the case.
The contempt charges were framed against the secretary under Section 2(b) of Contempt of Court Ordinance, 2003, read with Section 3 of Article 204 of the Constitution. (GNN) (Geo) (Yoogle)
